About the friendly staff of AcuSight
Dr. Rachel Siegel studied at The Ohio State University while completing her Bachelor of Science degree. She then attended graduate school at Southern College of Optometry where she was a member of Beta Sigma Kappa international honor society.
Throughout her education Dr. Siegel received extensive ocular disease training at Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center, as well as exceptional pre and post-operative care at Optivue before returning to practice as an eye doctor in Columbus.
Voted as one of the top eye doctors in the Columbus, Ohio area, Dr. Siegel continues to be involved in organizations dedicated to staying on top on continuing education and community outreach. Some of these organizations include the American Optometric Association, Ohio Optometric Association, Whitehall area Lions club, Whitehall Chamber of Commerce, and American Diabetes Association.
According to Dr. Siegel,“Throughout school one of my favorite organizations was SVOSH, a group that worked closely with international Lions Clubs to travel to underdeveloped countries to provide eye care and distribute glasses to those unable to gain access to care on their own. I look forward to being able to return on a trip as a staff eye doctor so others can continue this tradition and share this experience.”
Aside from eye care, Dr. Siegel enjoys watching the Buckeyes dominating football team, watching the Columbus Blue Jackets, and enjoys spending as much time outdoors as possible playing sand volleyball or exploring the city of Columbus.
Heather is a 2013 graduate of Wright State University. She then began working for Dr. Siegel when she opened her optometry practice in Columbus, Ohio. Since then she has become knowledgeable in basic eye care health.
She often sees each patient from the time he walks through the door to the final check out. She handles most of the preliminary eye exam testing for the eye doctor, monitors all technological equipment including visual field tests and retinal photos, aids in selection of eyeglasses, frames and lenses, handles minor eyewear adjustments, and assists with contact lens examinations and fittings.
Since AcuSight opened she has watched it grow and enjoys watching the patients grow with it. According to Heather, “I am excited to watch our optometry office expand and grow every year with each patient’s visit. We are constantly improving our eye exam services and updating to the latest eye health technology to better assist and monitor patient eye health. We want our patients to know they are receiving excellent eye care and are always in good hands with Dr. Siegel and all of our eyecare professionals at AcuSight.”
In her downtime Heather enjoys reading books, watching OSU and Bengals football, and attending music concerts. She also cares for her cat, Charlie, while avoiding the winter weather of Ohio as much as possible.
Maria grew up in North East Columbus. After graduating from Beechcroft High School, she briefly attended The Ohio State University; her plan was to get a degree in journalism, but life had other ideas.
While at OSU, she became friends with an eye doctor that worked at a major retailer and they were hiring for a doctor’s assistant. This is where her love of the eyecare profession began. Years later, a friend’s cousin who was also an eye doctor, hired her to open a store they had on the OSU campus.
Maria gained experience in all aspects of running a professional eyecare facility from management, human resources, retailing, merchandising, and so much more. It was then she decided that the eyecare profession and its attention to healthcare as well as retail was the field that she wanted as her career.
She then began an apprenticeship and became a licensed optician in 1996. Her career has given her the opportunity to work in both private offices and major retail environments with her most recent adventure joining our AcuSight family.
According to Maria, “The eyecare profession is exciting because there are always new technological advances to patient treatments as well as products such as frames and lenses.”
Outside of work, Maria likes to keep busy with her family. She has been married for 20 years to her husband and they have three wonderful boys.
The boys are involved in various sports and extra-curricular activities. When she is not driving the boys around, Maria enjoys cooking, baking, gardening, and has taken up a new hobby-photography.
We are extremely excited to have Maria join our eyecare team and are confident she will ensure you are looking and seeing your best when you walk out the door.
